International Men’s Day (UK)
International Men’s Day (UK)
In 2010, a small committee was formed to serve as Ambassadors for International Men’s Day in the UK. A few years later that committee would expand to become a charity called the Men and Boys Coalition, which in turn grew to become the Association for Male Health and Wellbeing in 2025.
This charity continues to manage and operate the UK Men’s Day website, the national resource for activities on and around November 19th, this year and every year.
Our vision for the day remains exactly as it was in 2010 – to promote IMD as an annual event to:
Make a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys
Raise awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men and boys’ wellbeing
Promote a positive conversation about men, manhood and masculinity
When we first began promoting the project, IMD was the occasion for a tiny handful of events around the country and a veritable barrage of jokes and abuse.
We persevered, and were rewarded with each passing year as we witnessed International Men’s Day quickly become an established and respected event on the national charities calendar. It has been adopted by national TV and radio channels for themed evenings and broadcasts. We have seen the establishment of an annual tradition of an International Men’s Day debate in Parliament, which in 2024 moved, for the first time, from Westminster Hall to the main Chamber of the House of Commons. The occasion has been endorsed by at least two British Prime Ministers and last year over 800 events were listed on our website, organised by charities, churches, schools, companies, local authorities and much, much more.
